Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) is a star rating system which assesses the thermal performance of a dwelling. As a part of the assessment, the heating and cooling loads exerted on a dwelling are identified. The NatHERS rating is a mandatory assessment, which allows an energy efficiency standard to be followed across Australia for the thermal performance of a dwelling. A minimum 6 Star rating is required for all residential dwellings in the state of Victoria.

From the 1st of May 2024, the state of Victoria will move forward to comply with the NCC 2022. The NCC 2022, outlines that the NatHERS rating will now change from a minimum of 6 stars to 7 stars, including an additional Whole of Home assessment. The Whole of Home assessment, measures the energy required for a dwelling, taking into account solar, electrical appliances, spas and pools, heating and cooling.
